Mauricio Pochettino a été officiellement présenté ce vendredi comme le successeur de Gregg Berhalter à la tête de l’équipe nationale senior des États-Unis d’Amérique. Au cours de la conférence de presse pour sa présentation, le technicien argentin de 52 ans, a tenu un discours ambitieux.
L’ancien entraîneur de Chelsea, de Tottenham où encore du Paris Saint-Germain est le grand pari de la fédération nord-américaine pour le grand défi que représente la Coupe du monde qu’elle organisera en 2026, avec le Canada et le Mexique. Une compétition dans laquelle, selon lui, il sera possible de marquer l’histoire, peut-être en soulevant le trophée.
“Nous devons croire en de grandes choses que nous pouvons gagner. Pas seulement un match, mais la Coupe du monde”, a déclaré le sélectionneur Mauricio Pochettino, dans des propos repris par la chaîne de télévision britannique BBC Sport.
“Si nous ne le faisons pas, ce sera un voyage difficile. Nous devons voir grand. C’est la seule façon de mettre notre talent au service de l’équipe. C’est un énorme défi”, a-t-il ajouté.
